Where Should You Stay in Manhattan After Newark Airport?
Your hotel location determines how easy the final part of your airport journey will be. For many first-time visitors, a central Manhattan location provides the best combination of transportation and sightseeing convenience.
Midtown Manhattan
Midtown is one of the most practical bases for first-time visitors. It provides access to major attractions, restaurants, subway connections and a large selection of hotels.
Times Square and the Theater District
This area works particularly well if Broadway, Times Square and Midtown attractions are central to your itinerary.
Midtown West
Midtown West offers convenient access to Broadway, restaurants and wider Manhattan transportation while providing an alternative to staying directly in the busiest part of Times Square.
Other Manhattan Areas
You can also choose Lower Manhattan, the Upper West Side, Upper East Side or other neighborhoods depending on your sightseeing plans. Match the hotel location to the places you actually intend to visit.

Newark to Manhattan With Luggage
Luggage can significantly affect which transportation option makes sense. A route that works well for a solo traveler with one small bag may be less comfortable for a family carrying several suitcases.
- Light luggage: train connections may be convenient.
- Heavy luggage: direct transportation may be easier.
- Families: reducing transfers can simplify the journey.
- Late arrivals: convenience may be worth prioritising.
Think about the entire route from Newark Airport to your hotel door, rather than choosing transportation based only on the first part of the journey.
Newark to Manhattan at Night
Late-night arrivals can make a complicated transportation route feel considerably harder. If you are tired, unfamiliar with NYC and carrying luggage, reducing transfers may be worth prioritising.
Before leaving the airport, have your hotel address available and know which transportation option you intend to use.
If your arrival is late, compare the convenience of a direct taxi or pre-arranged transfer with the time and effort required by public transportation.
